September 20, 2002

Why should I spend 20 mins a day unsubscribing from spam/junk mailing lists? I know everyone hates junkmail, and I know how much people hate having to delete all of it, but I just realized, its not necessarily that I get it, its that I get it, and have to spend 20 mins a day deleting unsubscribing from it. I know good and well that I never told anyone, anywhere that I would like to recieve great deals on the 24-hour diet, low-cost ink, or debt relief. I'm not in debt, I get ink at cost, and I don't need a dehydration diet! Those are obviously just a few of the hundreds and hundreds of mail I have recieved. I think I get about 20 a day. Where the hell are they comming from? Thankfully, I have my 'clean' email account that I have never gotten any junk mail in, cause I only give it to people I know, but my hotmail account is a different story. I filled the 'blocked' list up full of addresses almost a year ago, so now I have to unsubscribe to these idiots. I can't express my hatred for these people enough. I honestly wonder how much buisness these guys do just from spam. In the 5 oe so years Ive been on the internet, I think I have fallowed links from within 5 span mails, if that, and never have I purchased anything from them. I just dont get it. I could write to someone for 3 years asking for money in the most annoying way possible, but they wouldnt give it to me, they would just get pissed off. Do they think that by sending spam to us, "eventually they will break down and buy something, they have to". Who thought of spam mail too? Some guy in a buisness meeting said, "Heres my proposal: we will start sending advertisments to e-mail accounts, whether they are in our demographic or not, whether they are senior citizens or toddlers, whether they want car insurence or sex stimulant, we will not stop untill they get so pissed off that they have to buy something. What if they don't like it? Legaly, we have to put an unsubscribe button at the bottom of the e-mail, however we can just have them un subscribe from the email addy 148972045018975@reallysuperincredibledeals.com, but they will be still subscribed to 0978634198061965@reallysuperincredibledeals.com plys 4900 other mailing lists from us alone."

...I'm rambling..

Anyhow, this week has been super busy, but Maggies birthday was great and went off without a hitch, unless by hich you mean 2 hours hunched over the toilet Tuesday night ;). I got to goto bed, but I will tell you about my new found love for amebas in the next post. it will be exciting.
