Last night, after looking at the pics of Kirsten Dunst on IMDB, I went off to McCoy's to do some late night reading for my Korean War class. Once that horror was over, I went home and layed down. I found out my parents had to have their house bombed for fleas, because my dog, Molly got the fleas. This meant that we would have to stay somewhere else for the night ('till the fumes dissipated, i guess). After weighing our options, we decided to stay at the grocery store by our house, King Soopers. Luckily, no one was using the couches and beds of checkout stands 9-14, so we all decided to occupy them (and by 'we all' I of course mean, my mom, dad, brother, dog, and Kirsten Dunst). I don't know if Kirsten was friends with my brother or not, I just know she is around my family sometimes. Well, through the night, Kirsten and I had one or two conversations, and by conversations, I mean things like: "Hey whats up?" "Nothin." and "So where do you go to school?" "Regis." "Oh. neat". Anyhow, when we woke up the next morning, and left King Soopers, we went to the big gala at the local mansion. For those of you not familiar, this event is where you have a big Bar-b-que, then go off to your pre selected labor that has no meaning to you, like you have to staple red pieces of paper to un-sewn pants, or something else like that. For those of you who have been, you know what I mean. It was pretty cool, because my family, kirsten, my friends, and some co-workers from BBY were all there. Once everyone had pretty much gone home, i noticed Kirsten dart out the door. I was like, "What the crap? I thought we had a thing!" So, like anyone who who just saw their casual, movie star friend leave without saying goodbye, I chased after her. Se got pissed off because I was all huffy asking her why she didn't say bye, and told me she was going to come back before she left for the day. I felt stupid. Kirsten is the smartest girl. I went back in, and eagerly waited our " goodbye moment. I figured I had got the goods for sure because we had been flirting and stuff. She came back, and said goodbye to everyone and then got to me. I was gonna do the smooth 'sideways hug' which is the one arm around the small of the back, while both looking foreword and smushing ears together - you know the one. But to my dismay, when I went in for this move, she jumped back. "baby." I said, "I'z just gonna hug you." She laughed because she was obviously embarrassed. She said "I thought you were gonna do this--" then proceeded to squeeze my round, cute butt. We both laughed, but at that moment, I realized that Kirsten would soon be my girlfriend. wish me luck
Heres my problem: I can't come up with stuff to post fast enough. This, of course, in response to the friendly comments I got from that last post. My life, as it stands, isn't very interesting. Recap: Single White Male, 22, Denver CO, works at Mailboxes Etc / Best Buy, Attends Regis University, lives in tiny apartment, friends=limited, laundry=dirty in need of washing, Interesting things happen=rare. Im super busy these days with work and school (have gotten 9 hours of sleep in the past 3 nights) and surprisingly to me, I haven't spent much time watching tv/pointless surfing/hanging out w/ friends. Um.... Zwan cd is very good and I almost have all of my CD's riped on my compy. right now im at 8GB, close to 3000 mp3's, 140 hours of music. good times. Just bought a 6gb HD and 128mb of ram from ebay and some online computer seller. Hope it will bring some life to this "old, but seemingly kick ass" notebook I acquired." Hyenas won their final game of the season but will not be moved to the play-offs. It was a blast tho, we won 6 to 1 and I got my first goal in forever. Good times. This story isn't so much funny as it is long: A funny thing happened in one of my clases. It was my Senior Seminar: Evil and Meaning (which apparently equals The Holocaust & Soviet Russia). This class is heald on Mondays only. Last Monday was Martin Luther King, Jr. day, so we didn't have class. That means that up until today we have only had one class. The assignments for the next class were as follows: Watch a documentary entitled The Last Days produced by the self-appointed president of the "Holocaust Was Bad so Lets Film People Taking About It Foundation" (HWBLFPTAIF), Steven Speilberg. The 2nd thing we had to do was to read part of a book, Man's Search for Meaning, which is apparently really good, and lastly to write a 5-7 page paper on our 30 minute "surround yourself with silence and reflect" exercise. This seemed okay, we had two weeks for all three. Last night, I pulled out my Syllabus to find that the paper was due last Tuesday. Yes, a day we don't even have class, nor will we ever have class on Tuesday. In my personal opinion this was a dick move. Anyhow, after freaking out, I decided I'd better get crackin' and hope she will let me turn my paper in late. I decided I would do the reading first. Turns out that the 'part' of the book we had to read only excluded the introduction and "in heind sight" notes. It was just under 175 pages of reading. About man. And his search. For meaning. The only logical thing to do at this point (10pm) was to procrastonate, so I did. Then I read the book. Then I went to bed at 7:45, and woke up at 8:50. Went to my religion class and came home. I wanted to just say screw it and sleep for two hours before my 'evil' class, but my healthy and often intelectual roomate suggested that I do the paper instead. I typed 6 pages in 2 hours, a personal record. I had watched the film on saturday, so I was all set for class now. When we had our 5 min break, I heard someone ask if they could turn the paper in late because bot their maternal parents and foster parents and dog had died the week before or something like that. She said it was okay. I explained that I am an idiot, so she let me turn in my paper late also. When we got back from our little break, she asked the class who had seen the movie, and it turns out I was the only one who had seen it thanks to netflix (ask me if you want a free trial and I'll hooks you up). So she did the only logical thing. She showed the video (all 1.5hours of it) to the class. Did not suggest to me that I didn't have to stay and because of her previous good-will pertaining to the paper I did not ask to leave. But think of it this way. She might as well have asked the class "Who wrote their thesis paper yet?" and when only one person had, she tells the class that they can write it in class, but makes the person who has allready written it, write it again. I know that theres a difference between paper and movie, but still. ......I told you the story wasn't any good...... ZWAN CD comes out today, so be sure to buy it at any one of your local Best Buy Corperation owned record stores (i.e. Sam Goody, Best Buy, Media Play, Suncoast, etc.)
"Denver Plane Crash Causes Hundreds to Lie, Make Uneducated Judgments" [link: cnn, dp] This should be the official title of the headline in tomorrow's paper. So this is what happened. I was watching TV and I got a call from my mom. She told me that there had been a plane crash and asked if it was near my house. It was. Here is the map.  So. I was close. I walked outside and there was the 9news helicopter flying right above me. It was weird. I could see the smoke coming from a few blocks down. Its when I got back inside that the problem started. I was watching 9news and they started getting calls from eye-witnesses. Most of them were fine, but then I kept on hearing people say that they heard a loud bang/crashing sound. This made sense until they said where they were when they heard it. These people were further away than I was. I thought that maybe it was because I was in the basement, so my roommate went to the apartment upstairs and asked Tina & Christian if they heard the crash. They didn't even know that there was a crash. So yes, I realized that the people calling in were most likely just trying to get on TV, because there was no such noise, not one heard from 6 blocks away at least. The best was this woman calling who was driving on Federal when it happened. Right. You were driving in rush hour traffic with your window down, your radio off, in your car that emits no audible noise, and for some reason there was no sound coming from other motorists which allowed you to gear the sound or a wing getting hit from 12 blocks away. Glad the investigators will have that expert eye-witness testimony in case they need to get some facts straight in the investigation. What happened next was even better. This guy called in who lives a little closer to the crash than we do, and he said he saw it and heard it and saw the plane fall down, etc. Then he proceeds to lecture the listening audience of KUSA, 9news, Denver, COlorado on how he has pictorial accounts of "hundreds of planes" flying "too low" around his house "all the time", and how he has "made complaints to the FAA on several occasions on this terrible problem" and the best of all: That "its too bad it takes a tragedy like this to make the FAA see that something has to be done." This guy is almost as good as Jack Van Impe [audio]. There is absolutely no way that mid-air collision had anything to do with flying to low. Nick's brother [united airlines pilot] put it best when he said "Its like saying they crashed because they are airplanes." This guy probably just got fired from a government job for slapping an intern on the butt and now hold a grudge that he chose to take out on the FAA. To him, I say shut up. All of the stupid citizens aside, it is quite scary that it was so close to my house and I feel horrible for the four that have died and their families, and whoever lived in that house. Hopefully they will get through this okay.
Well life is very uninteresting. Work, school, and trapeeze practice. Same 'ol same 'ol. Downloaded The new Windows Media Player 9 (XP) (98, me, 2k) which is the best thing that Microsoft has put out since mplayer2. They also launched a website, wmplugins that has a few decent skins and some other plug-in stuff that may or may not be worth you time. If you 'buy' Plus! Media Player Edition you get a couple of cool things in it, like an alarm clock built into wmp that I will start using. "Go you Huskies!" --what movie is that quote from? Nick and Maggie don't get to guess. Look for the new banner at the top =)
Lack of updates brought to you by: Maggie's hospital retreat. She banged up her innards right-good at keystone last wednesday and went to the hospital on friday to find out about some spleen problems (lacerations, internal bleeding, etc.). She is definitely much better now (after 5 days) and hopefully will be out this afternoon. I have been at the good ol Lutheran Medical quite a bit and haven't had time to update this mofo. [this is also why the webcam is m.i.a.] All else is well, aside from us getting annihilated at our hockey game on Sunday. We played really well, but they had Patrick Roy as a 'guest goalie', hence the shut out. Zwan CD come out in a week, so be sure to prepare yourself accordingly by reading up on all of its infamous members and musical vision. You could also give them a listen. Also, if anybody has an old, non functioning or useless laptop, I was wondering if they would want to donate a hard drive to me so I can get my newly acquired PII Toshiba up and running. I think I need a 6gb or less, otherwise I will have to shell out the 60 dollar financial burdon. I guarantee no one will have a hard drive to donate tho...just watch.
So there are some buttons going around (at least, in my local area and/or school) that are promoting the US to *not* goto war with Iraq. I am a kid who agrees with this notion that the reasons the American people have seen so far are not enough, by any means, to declare war with Iraq. For the record, I will state that I do not claim to be an authority on the United State's international politics, UN relations, or any sort of terrorist threat expert, however the only reasons that I have heard for declaring war have been absurd. I won't get into it because I'm sure the media has already bombarded you faithful American citizens with reasons for and against Dubya's undying, uncompromised obsession with killing thousands of innocent people, however here are a few of my favorite. "Weapons of Mass destruction! Holy crap! Lets annihilate them!" -Dubya. No. I believe that the UN is looking for these "uber-death weapons" and has yet to find any, but Dubya doesn't care because a) he wants oil for cheaper and b) Dubya is holding some bs personal vendetta against Saddam Hussein from over 10 years ago. You may be a good son, but your a crappy president. The Onion puts it best. Back to the buttons. These buttons circulating state "WAR - not in my name". While I have one of these buttons, my friend Maggie has brought up a very good point. If your name was Warren, than war *would* be in your name. Remind me never to talk politics again. MTV is totally awesome. They are doing "Spankin New Bands Week". Now, the spankin' new bands include The Donna's, New Found Glory and Good Charlotte. It might be interesting to note tho, that The Donna's (a very good band), after releasing various singles and a full self titled CD, put out their first big label album in 1998. Yes, 1998. 5 years ago. Yes, 2003...Spankin new. New Found Glory was formed in 1997. Lets see...thats......6 years ago, and Good Charlotte formed SEVEN years ago, in 1996. A message for Mtv: Just because a band signed with an Mtv friendly Label -or- your music director makes the decision to give a band air time does not make a band 'new'. P.S. My newborn baby cousin will be starting 2nd grade on Monday, so wish him luck.
School is kool! Not really. It actually seems okay. so far. My New Testament Themes teacher is just a crazy wacky zany priest who is a big goof ball and seems like he will be pretty cool (if I can get past the jokes). My Senior seminar teacher seems like the kind of lady you would cast in a halloween-based film with a lot of cats living with her, but she is also cool. My Java teacher is an old dude who knows his stuff and I think will be good. And then theres Steele. Luckily, my buddy from BBY, joe is in that class (AI: Neural Networks) so it wont get a boring. Hyenas lost after being up in the first once again, but played fairly well. if you want me to start keeping my webcam more (at all?) be sure to let me know and i will, but I don't think anyone looks at it. I have been reading some fun literature on how best buy sucks at bestbuysux.org for the past hour, and it is hilarious. Most common complaints: 1) Won't take something back for a return. This is either because they have had it past the return period or don't have a receipt, which these 'complaintents' state in their complaint. Answer: life has rules and you should not be excluded from following them. Analogy: "Ms. Customer service rep, I know the return period is 30 days but its only been 35 days so i don't know why you wont take it back!" ~ "Officer, I know the speed limit was 30 but I was only going 35 so I don't know why you need to give me a ticket!" 2)Rebate late/never arrives. Rebates, first of all, are mainly done thru the manufacturer (didn't see any complaints about the actual best buy mail in rebates). This means, the Manufacturer tells best buy that they will honor an $x rebate on a product given set guidelines (include upc, etc.). So, best buy advertises this. Then people complain on an anti-best buy website about a manufacturer rebate, blaming best buy "they shouldn't advertise a rebate that isn't always given due to unforeseen circumstances". Also, they complain when they don't fill out the rebate right or they forget a upc or something and have to mail in the rebate again and have a problem getting the rebate back (the best was a guy who had filled out a rebate, then moved and the rebate was not forwarded to his new address, so he asked best buy for the money). Answer: Like #1, you need to follow rules and directions to get what you want and make sure your complaining to the right company. Analogy: "I bought a webcam from best buy and did not receive my rebate from the manufacturer so i want best buy to pay for it!" ~ "I filed my taxes but then got audited because i filled them out wrong and I want George Dubya Bush to write me a check!" (that was kinda lame) 3)Best buy is sold out of a new release CD/DVD on its release day Good for Best Buy! They got in a certin stock of an item, the quantity being usually the most allowed per store, properly displayed it creating interest in it and easy accessibility for purchase and sold all of the cd's they got it! Welcome to a successful business! Of course they're sold out bro. They get a limited number in stock and sell them. Supply and demand. If an artist/movie is popular enough, many people will want to buy it. Usually more than they can make by the release date. And why do these people gripe about "the sales-kid told me they get a truck on thurs so i call on thurs and they said they didn't get it, those bastards". If your so mad, why don't you call the head of distribution for Virgin Records and complain to him that they didn't produce enough CD's. Jesus, I'm sure the 18 year old that your bitching out a) is responsible for them not having it in and b) has the authority to override ordering limitations and cooperate production quantities. Answer: If we get it on the truck we'll sell it, and if we sell them all, you can't buy it. Analogy: "Why didn't you order enough CD's so that I could buy one after 8pm on the day it came out!" ~ "Why are you out of tickets to this movie that I wanted to see on opening day? You should have built more theaters in your movie complex so that when I came 5 mins before the movie started, I could see this little slice of cinematic genius!" Best Buy customers who complain about stuff like this are some of the best people there are. (Note that there were one or two stories that someone really did get shafted, but from a cooperate rules policy, BBY couldn't really do anything about and I do feel bad for those people, but sometimes in life, thats exactly what happens, joo get shafted good.) ahhhhh....I could go on and on, but I for you, my faithful readers sake, i will refrain.
Well, I suppose its time to start up again with the updates. Whole lotta nothin' happened the past week. Last night was Nick Leader's 21st so we went to the standard bar for the occasion (the Bank). Luckily, as I type, the commercial is on where the dad asks the kid where he learned how to use drugs, and the son follows with, "YOU DAD! I learned by watching you!" classic. Hockey tonight will be our 3rd to last game, and our record sucks. I'm thinkin we need to bust out these last games and take a crap on the pride of our opponents. I don't think I mentioned it, but our game 2 weeks ago was against Matt's team and he didn't show up. I think its because he didn't want to comprimize his feminine skillz by playing such an elite team as ourselves. No sense in telling the final score of that game. School starts tomorrow. suck. New mp3otw up. And by the way...do not see Gangs of New York. It is cinematic crap at its finest. Along with Houseguest, it is the only movie that I have ever wanted to actually walk out on, and I almost did. It was terrible and you will be sorry if you choose to see it. The only other movie that comes close to as bad as this movie was in recent history was Minority Report. Christ, even Drumline was more entertaining than Gangs of New Crap.
