February 27, 2003

Well folks, this is truly a revolutionary post. I am actually posting using the TV as the moniter while sitting on my couch. Im using the Toshiba laptop that I acquired from my brother. We figured out how to network it so it wouldnt mess up the internet on my computer (by installing network files from xp cd on this me machine). So, it has internet, is networked to nick and my computers and now has audio and video outputs. We were able to get it to where it can now play all of our mp3 files thru the network. So far we have 19 gigs, 324 hours, or 13.5 days worth of music. its dope. Anyhow, midterms are almost over and all im doing is prolonging the agony that is schoolwork.

to quote todd, "piece out".

Midterms, midterms, boo midterms.
I dont have anything to say today. Seriously. I have a 7 page paper to write befor 5pm tomorrow and I work tonight from 6-midnight. w3rd.
This is a good website.

Comments seem to be down again. I dont know whats going on with HaloScan. They seem to be having a lot of problems. Anyone know of another good somment service? Post in comments....or dont.

I saw a preview for a movie called Love Liza back in Nov/Dec when I saw Bowling for Columbine (see it). The movie (Liza) was released in November 2001, but for some reason has not been showing anywhere in the state untill now. I saw it tonight. I can't say much about it, because for some reason there is not much to say about it other than it was really good. Very sad and quiet movie tho.

Lance needs to call me btw. He sucks because I call him (with no answer) and has yet to call me since moving to New York. Yell at him if you get the chance.

I dont think I've mentioned this or now, but I will be visiting my sister next week on spring break in SanFransisco with Weston probably. I'm super excited, and if anyone needs Golden Gate Bridge ash trays, just let me know before I leave on Sat.

Good weekend overall. Friday kinda sucked cause I had to work, and therefore I didn't get to see Old School 'till Midnight, but it was good, plus, I bought a JVC mp3 deck and it is amazing to have a CD play that has 150 songs in your car. Random rules. However, buying the deck put me in financial ruins. I hope I will be able to survive in SanFransisco on a buck-twelve.

Saturday was cool, I finally got paid for that MBE stuff I did THREE weeks ago, but I was promised 100 and only got 60. Not bad tho for 6 hours of work.
Sat night Nick and I hung out with Di and her friend Kelly. It was cool, and surprisingly this time, Di didn't fall down while leaning on the bathroom door, out into the entryway. ah...good times.

Today we lost hockey something like 7 to 3, but we were playing a team that plays in a higher division also, and we were missing 3 of our regular defensemen. Im so glad we have a permanent goalie. After the game I went over to Michaels where we I ate some delicious Macaroni & Cheese and Jalapeo poppers that my Sister in law prepared. It was good.

February 23, 2003

Ive decided not to make a huge effort to update over the weekends, since few people come here on the weekends.

February 22, 2003

Old School is a good comedic movie.

I bought a stereo.

I like Flogging Molly.

February 19, 2003

I apologize for the updating frequency. School right now is not horrible, just busy. Had a Korean War paper due this morning, and busted it out last night.

Last night I also saw "The Daredevil Man" movie. It was good, I have to say. I only had a few problems with it, and they seem to be out-weighed by the good. Don't worry, there are no spoilers here (i don't think people care anyway).

Pro's: The way they decided to simulate what Murdock "sees" from his increased hearing. Theres not a good way to explain this, you just have to see it, its badass. I also liked, as Nick pointed out that they made DD a 'darker' character than some of the other comic book movie characters (spider-man, even batman. batman movies are dark, but they don't portray Bruce Wayne as dark). Also, there was a little boy who played the young DD and, for a little kid, he was really, really good. Producers usually completely ruin a movie by casting some stupid little annoying kid as a "young someone" (note: Star Wars Ep I) who just turns out to be an annoying little turd. This hid was good and was actually entertaining to watch. Colin Farrell did an amazing job as Bullseye, and Favreau was awesome as foggy and Kevin Smith's cameo was classic.

Cons: There were three fight scenes that ended in the exact same position. Person one stood over person 2 with a sharp pointy object, ready to stab, but for one reason or another, did not start in with the stabbing action. This kinda made me mad. It happened 3 times within 20 mins. whatever. Second, I thought that computer animators were able to get down physics pretty well? Not in this movie. I understand that DD can jump far and stuff, but when he would flip around to get up something, gravity seemed to be pulling in multiple directions. i didn't like it. it was reminiscent of when obi wan flips down after hanging onto that cable in the rainy planet in episode II. not good. Lastly, producers/directors need to realize that some things just will look plain bad in digital animation. Namely, in daredevil: a single drop of blood falling down to where the camera is on the ground looking up, and also I think it is obvious that it would be tough to digitally animate a rose falling from a roof and bouncing off the cement below. Ya, they didn't pull it off., but it was a very good movie.

Comments were down for a while, but i believe they are back up.

February 16, 2003

Hockey starts tonight. And this season we actually have a goalie, and by have a goalie, I mean we have a goalie that will play in pretty much every game, and not just one game like the girl did last season. Good times.
UPDATE It was a 5-5 tie. I scored a goal from behind the net when it bounced off one of their players shins. Ill take it.

Pinegar's birthday was on friday, so I took my little valentine and Matt Leader to the Mammoth game, tickets c/o Frontier Airlines. 8th row back. The game was awesome, but we did in fact loose in sudden death overtime. It was a blast tho and we all had a jolly good time.

I found a new deck that I will buy once I get some money together (sell books back?). It is a CD deck that also plays mp3 data CD's. Joo can look at it here. It looks pretty slick and also will display the ID3 tags from the mp3's. Only $144 my price, much better than dishin out $200 for just a new face to my deck that doesn't even play mp3's.

UPDATE - New mp3otw up, plus I added 'Stereo Thievery: A Lesson In Etiquette' article below!! Please read it.

My car got broken into last night. This is just what my site needed! Content! So, I got home from McCoys at around 2am and went to bed. Nick got up at 7am and left for school. He started driving and noticed his back window was open. He thought this was odd so he made sure no one took anything. They didn't. He then noticed music wasn't playing, and thought, "I don't have a CD with this much dead air". That was when he noticed his deck was gone. He shortly called me and told me his car had been broken into and that I should check mine. I got ready for class, then went out to find my driver's side quarter window smashed out. "Super", I thought. upon inspection, I found that nothing was taken from my car, except my faceplate to my deck. Also, the dashboard panel was trashed (as seen here in fig.1) It has been a busy and fulfilled day of calling glass places and trying to contact JVC. The new glass will cost around $175 and to get a new faceplate, (faceplate *only* mind you, not a whole new deck) the FACEPLATE for my deck costs $195. Well. "Super", I said. That will save me 5 bucks as opposed to buying a new one for $200. ya.

In light of these recent events, I have decided to make two lists. The first is a "how to" for stealing decks. The second, "Stereo Thievery: A lesson in etiquette" Will be published later this spring.

DIY: Steal Your Very Own Deck!

There are only a few main points to this portion. The first, is if you can't get what you want, get what you can. They were not able to get my deck out, and so they gave up. This was their downfall. If they only knew that they were merely inches away from eight compact disc's in mint condition. Please note in fig.2 that any thief ranging from the classification from "weak sauce" to "hard thuggin" knows that If you can't steal the deck, steal some other stuff. This will help every novice in his long road to street acceptance.

another chapter in my how to, is the one entitled "Bring tools with you: A tool left at home is a deck left in the car." By far, the funniest part of the whole ordeal is that they would have stolen my deck easily, if they only had a certain special tool: A phillips screw driver. My deck doesn't go in the metal casing like most, nope, it just screws onto a metal piece that screws in the deck. With screws. Phillips head screws. Now, I am not a car thief, but I figure if I was, I would bring along with me, somewhere in my arsenal of tools, a freakin screw driver. Because they did not have a screw driver, they decided to just hit the screw with something hard. It is difficult to see, but in this picture (fig.3), there is the bent metal piece from where they hit under the screw. Luckily, Nick (who has already bought and installed a new deck) pointed out that maybe I should take the faceless cd player out of my car, because if not, it would only take someone (perhaps the same someones) under 2 mins to get the rest out of my car, so I did. In conclusion, bring a screwdriver for chrissakes, and if you cant get what you want, at least get something.

Stereo Thievery: A Lesson In Etiquette

In this article, I will be discussing various procedures and circumstances to follow to ensure that you will be able to steal one's stereo with confidence, class, and overall kindness. Stereo thievery in the past was a thing of beauty. These days it has become a slop job with no consideration as to proper etiquette. I have a couple of simple rules to follow to help, and share with friends.

Lesson #1 - "Ask and You Shall Receive". Now, most thieves have the preconceived notion that people don't like having their stereos stolen. While this may be the case, you can make that same angry, stereoless person a lot happier if you do not cause unnecessary damage to their vehicles windows in any way. This is where my 'ask first' policy comes into play. Have you ever tried asking to steal someones stereo? I'll bet not. You might be surprised at the results this yields. Heres the wording I use and it seems to work most of the time.

[After ringing doorbell, tenant open door]
"Hi there, sorry to bother you at such a late hour, but my name is [your name], and first of all, I'm not here to sell you anything. Me and my friends are just going around the neighborhood and noticed the stereo in your car. You see, we are Stereo thieves and we were planning on breaking into your car. So why are we at your door you ask? I'll tell you. How much do you think a new window costs? $100, $200, maybe even $300? Well, your absolutely right. Any ordinary thief would have smashed in your window without thinking twice, but thats where the advantage of the 'straight up thuggin' thief's come in. All it takes is a car key and we will be able to steal your stereo with all glass still in tact. Just think about not having to deal with the cost or time that modern window replacement takes. All it takes is a key, and you can even supervise if you'd like. Otherwise, its like you kissing that $200 away. All that being said, I think the choice is obvious."

89% of the time they will give you the keys right then and there. This speech works like a charm and I recommend using it. Now, if the tennant is not home, or doesn't come to the door, it is preferred that you break the least expensive window on the car. While quarter-windows may look cheap, they are more of a specialty part and usually cost more. I always go for the 'ole drivers side door. Easy access to lock, and the least expensive to fix. [A side note, if you happen to make an attempt to sweep off the glass on the seat before you leave, I think you will be pleasantly surprised on how the tenant responds to this. I cant tell you how many e-mails I've received thanking me.]

Lesson #2 - "When It Rains, It Pours". This one is quite simple. Now, how much is the average deductible for car insurance? $250, $500? Lets be reasonable and say 500. You probably know the approximate value of the deck your ganking and it is save to say that a window will cost around $250 [if lesson #1 fails only]. Think about this for a second. Lets say the deck is $250 also. That would be a total of $500 in damage, meaning the victim would not get any insurance money [as most insurances don't cover things like CD's]. So whats in it for the victim? NOTHING. This is why I always do the following: Break stuff. Listen, under $1,000 is still a misdemeanor, it is only once you reach $1,000 that it becomes a felony, so why don't you reach just under that 1,000 mark at least. This will benefit the victim in more ways than you think. First off, they will actually get money from their insurance. Second, they will have this money to get better stuff than what they had before. They will already be paying the $500 for a stereo + window, why not give them some spending money. The best way to do this is to break stuff that is in the crappiest of shape. If you see a cracked rear-view mirror, knock the sucker to the floor. A broken glove compartment, elbow drop it. Torn up seats? Pee on them then light them on fire. You see, when you do this, you are actually helping the victim because then they will be able to use the insurance money to buy the new seats, dash, mirror, etc that they have wanted. Thats why I say, make insurance worth it: break it.

Last night I went out with Di and her 3 friends and Nick. We went to the Gigglin' Grizzly (Or the Guzzlin' Goose as magswell calls it). It was okay. We were all making fun of Di because she told us she couldn't pick up on any guys with a broken leg, so she decided to venture into the bar and bring back the 2 ugliest girls she could bring to sit down at our table. Thanks Di.

Tonight, I went out to dinner with Nick for his dad's birthday. We went to 'La Fondue'. It was interesting. It's a fondue restaurant as you may or may not have picked up from the name. First, cheese fondue, last, chocolate, and between those they bring you raw meat to cook in the fondue pots full of oil or broth. We had a little problem as the temperature of the one with the oil in it was no where near where it should have been. The waitress told us to cook the [raw] chicken for about 3 mins in the oil. Nick's brother and I put in some chicken for 3 mins. It didn't look done, so we let it sit in there for another two. Well, we both ended up eating uncooked chicken. It had quite a slimy texture and I would call it unpleasant. Once we turned up the heat, all was better. I don't think I'd go back, considering the price, but I had a good time. To quote nick: "you'd think this place would be cheaper considering they make you cook your own food."

More problems with that laptop. Everytime we get internet working on it, internet stops working on my computer, and its really annoying. If anyone knows about DNS servers or how/where I can get IP's to set up manually a DNS server, please let me know.

February 7, 2003

Boy do I need a new job. Every day at work, my boss makes some crack at how hes gonna fire me, or how I'm gonna be fired, or how I should quit. Its the kind of thing where I will have just made a great sale, and he will come up to me and tell me how much I suck while the other kid in my department is over in media, playing video games. This guy just has some unknown grudge against me. Its probably because I am so beautiful and he is ugly.

Anyone have any good suggestions on jobs I could get? I kind of wanted to be a waiter so I could make (hopefully) more than the $8.62/hr I'm pullin' in now. I need suggestions on places or types od places to work. My mom suggested La Estrilita, but I'd be driving just as far as I am now, which I don't like. Julie suggested that I serve downtown somewhere because she says the tips are much better, and Maggie thinks I should stay N. Denver/Arvada/Westminster because I am not good enough for downtown. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I really should be getting on this quick.

If ANYONE wants 128mb pc133 so dimm Notebook ram, I will sell it to you for 10 bucks, which is a helluva deal. I just dont want to deal with sending it back to that company.

February 5, 2003

Got the laptop working...sort of. The ram doesnt work, so i just had to install winME on it (64megs is the minimum for winXP, and it only has 32, el oh el). Shes a Toshiba 7010. PII 300mHz, 32megs o ram, but has a docking station for DVD, floppy, more usb, ps/2, and even tv out. It actually runs a lot faster than I thought it would. I remembered 300mHz'ers being way slow. But then again, its not like viewing websites is all that resource consuming. So I think the ram doesnt work because it is not pc66. but notice that I bought it from here and it does in fact say pc66. Im pissed and I want to send it back.

I called stupid Action Used Computers and the stupid lady told me that notebook RAM is proprietary. This does not seem true. *Please* tell me if you think notebook ram is proprietary in the comments on the next line. [that is...once they get their server back up and running]

February 4, 2003

Heres something interesting. Apparently the music industry had been naughty and charging too much for CD's, tapes and vinyl. There is a possible settlement in the works, and if it goes through, you could receive a check in the mail. But be forewarned: there are strict circumstances that one must meet in order to get their check. They are listed here. Please note, if you do not fall into this very narrow profile, you are NOT eligible for the settlement, and should NOT fill out the claim. You must answer the following questions:
1) Did you buy music?
2) Did you buy it at a store?
3) Was it bought within the six year span of January 1995 to December 2000?

If you answered yes to all three of these questions (which one or at most two of you may have) then you are eligible for the settlement (a check in the mail with your name on it ranging from 5$ to 20$).
If you did manage to be one of the lucky ones who meet this criteria, please fill out your claim here. If you would like more information on all of this hoopla, go here.

while this all sounds like a joke, it is not. Seriously. go fill out the form and you might get 20 bucks. Too bad you wont be able to buy a CD with that money since CD's at Sam Goody still cost like $27.

Based on the post about credit card applications by mail from maddox, Matt has decided to "officially fire the first shot in starting a [more organized] guerilla war mailing campaign [against credit card companies], and you can help." I urge those of you who receive by mail credit card apps to print the document mentioned in matt's 'inner rage post' and use it liberally.

P.S. I got my laptop HD + RAM today. The hard drive seems to work, but when I put the Ram in, the computer doesnt even start up at all. Anyone know why this is happening?

February 3, 2003

Got a kickin' hair cut today...thats it.

February 2, 2003

Work suxx0red today. We (nick & I) did $1,200, whereas on a normal day with 3 people they do about $1,300, so it was busy. This kid that works there durring the week asked out this girl who comes in sometimes who is way hot. I was upset because she was going out with him and not me, but the I realized that he was the one who asked her out, not me. However, apparently what he said to her was money. I guess he said, "Look, I'm a regular guy. I make less than $200 a week so I can't buy you nice jewlry or anything and I don't have a car, so if we go anywhere, you'll have to drive. Do you still wanna go out with me?

(that ones for you todd)

So, it was pretty ballzy, and I give the kid 'props'. When she came to pick him up from MBE (he thought that giving directions to his house was too difficult) nick and I decided to play the role of 'parent', taking their picture and asking her what time she'd have him home. I hope he had a good date because, boy is she cute.

-=RandomThoughtoftheDay=-
I heard the new Sum41 song, and in it, the dude says something like "you cant change the state of the nation". Now, does he mean Canada or US? Just a thought.
