Brat Pack, or Camp, or Something...

Last night, Nick and I caught the better part of this realistic TV show called "Brat Camp". Here's the gist of the show: a bunch of (probably rich) parents have given up on fulfilling their parental responsibilities and decided to send their "bratty" kids to (the probably expensive, yet pseudo-illustrious) "brat camp". There, these bratty kids will learn through some tough life lessons how to cherish what they have and embrace life or some crap, I didn't watch the beginning of the show.

All the counselors have these stupid made up names, like "Running Water" and "Fire Biter" or something close to that. During the show, two of the brats started to flirt with each other and it cut-away to some counselor telling the camera that, "here at brat camp, we discourage relationships and try to block love from blossoming". Nick and I named this counselor "Cock Blocker".

"Guys, this is starting to really hurt. Just look at it. It's poked a hole right through me. Guys?"

Sara and I Turned One!

This last Sunday, Sara and I turned one! July 24th, 2004 I took Sara out for some dinner at The Hornet in which I stabbed myself in the cheek with a ketchup-doused French fry while talking about the scars on my head. After dinner, we watched Napoleon Dynamite at the Mayan Theatre. It was my third time seeing it, but I didn't want to tell her that. I knew it was love when she was the only one in the theater who laughed out loud when Napoleon said to Pedro, "Just follow your heart, thats what I always do." The night rounded out with a drink at the Streets Of London pub where a heavily intoxicated patron spilled their Cape Cod all over Sara, and then attempted to make friends as a self-penance.

This Sunday wasn't quite as exciting as a year ago, but it was quite nice, nonetheless. I got Sara a gift certificate to the Denver Darkroom, and she got me all kinds of stuff: SNL dvd's (Fill Farrell I & II, Christopher Walken), Scrubs Season 1 dvd, and a really cool tripod for my camera and camcorder. We just hung out all day, went to a few stores, then at night cooked us some dinner. It was quiet, but very very nice. I can thank Sara for making my life so good this past year and say that I hope things continue this way indefinitely. I love you Sara.

I wasn't looking forward to this:

(Very difficult, a million points if you get it)
"You have one thing money and practice can't buy - you look like a nice guy."

Thought I'd give you an update on how my hard drive is doing. Not well. But not completely awful. I was able to buy (read: take) one of nick's old PC hard drives that was bigger than mine and format it using the same file system as my bad one. Then I found dos 7+ couldn't read my bad hard drive, so unfortunately I couldn't transfer the files with long filenames (meaning that any file name like "Death Cab For Cutie - The New Year.mp3" is now "DEATHC~1.MP3"). I figured that stupid looking filenames were better than no files at all. Well, when transferring my 3,000+ songs, dos ran out of memory at about song 1,900. Shit.

I decided to move on to pictures, after all, with pictures, filenames are quite unimportant and I'm sure to have less than 1,900. dos ran out of memory again, but I think the only ones it didn't transfer over were some random ones that were pretty old. I can deal without them.

Back to my music. After installing JRiver Media Center and finding out it wasn't good for transferring files back to the PC, I tried (fully functional free trial of) iPod Agent and I am currently getting songs transfered back from my iPod to my PC, *and* I was able to tell it what name to give the files (Death Cab For Cutie/Transatlanticism/Death Cab For Cutie - 01 The New Year.mp3), something I wish I could have controlled when I first started ripping my CD's. Anyhow, the process, while long and un-fun, and not fun does seem to be moving along now. Just hope this doesn't put me too much back, and I hope it never happens again.

"It's okay. He's just admiring the shape of your skull."

You ever try getting dos to mount 2 hard discs at the same time from a boot disk?

All Kinds of Crazy Inter-Programming

So there's this guy named Ian C Rogers who is the lead developer for the Yahoo! Music Engine. As you all know, I love the YME, and as far as I can tell, Ian is a developer genius. Anyhow, recently on his blog, he posted that there is an easy way to add an http link to a specific song that will launch the YME and start playing that song. The problem is that Firefox can't detect if the user has the YME installed (whereas IE can), so I wrote a simple little greasemonkey script that will auto launch the YME like IE does. I posted a comment on Ian's Post that I had made it, and now he wrote a whole post about greasemonkey and at the end mentions he likes my script. I really like being connected to this little programming niche of the web, even if it is a weak (but fun) association.

You can get that greasemonkey script here, and test it out with these:
Jimmy Chamberlin Complex - Loki Cat (Feat. Billy Corgan)
The Decemberists - 16 Military Wives
And why not the entire new Mike Doughty Album
(and the iTunes auto-launch is here.)

July 8, 2005

I almost wish I didn't have this much to talk about. There is a lot of stuff right now that I feel like I have to "take care of", and the more I think about everything there is to take care of, the less I want to get started.

One issue topping my list is that last night my secondary hard drive crashed. "That's not a problem, it's a secondary hard drive! It's expendable!" Ah, I wish that was the case. My primary drive, C, keeps windows and applications. My secondary hard drive, D, keeps all of my music, all of my videos, and every picture I have ever taken. Yeah, thats the one that ended up crashing. So i need to buy some new hardware, I guess. I don't really have time for that. There is some hope, because it looks like I might be able to recover the data on it. I really hope. Really makes me think that I want to switch.

Also, little side note, I am still using and loving the Yahoo! Music Engine. I have been waiting for an audioscrobbler plugin since the engine came out, and I finally found one. Combine that with a display of the most recently played track (that I found here), and you have a new /mark feature! Now you can see what I am listening to whenever you come here. Something I've wanted for a while. Tell me what you think of it.

"Who would you be, Count Chocula or Trix Rabbit?"

Better 4th

So it turns out that I did a lot this weekend, not at all as planned. On Saturday, I saw Madagascar, which wasn't very entertaining, and made me like Ben Stiller even less (as do most movies Ben Stiller is in). Then, on our way home, Sara and I stumbled upon the City of Glendale's "The First Fireworks Show of any of Denver's Suburbs!". We watched from the target parking lot, along with about a few hundred other people.

Sunday I had a Bar-b-Que which I didn't find out about until Friday night. I had a bunch of people over, Jacki, Charles, Stranski, Heather, Jeremy (Jones), Gabe, Charles' friend Q and a couple others. It was great. Someone brought some "real" fireworks over and we all decided to go to the park and ..test them, which accidentally went a little awry, causing us all to run home. But that was fun.

Then last night I went to my parents house for a fourth of July dinner with the family, including my sister, who got there after her United flight was delayed canceled because "the plane was broken and they had to fly in a mechanic". We had a great time and it was so much fun showing Sarah fireworks and sparklers. Turned out to be a pretty eventful weekend, and I had a blast. So I guess my co-workers wouldn't be so disappointed if they asked what I did this weekend after all.

"Do you know why the number two hundred is so vitally descriptive to both you and me? It's your weight and my I.Q."

July 1, 2005

It's 4th of July weekend and I am doing absolutely nothing. Sure it's a little tough to talk to co-workers asking of their twenty-something colleague what he is up to on this holiday weekend, eagerly expecting to hear about keggers, road trips with no specific destination, or crazy stories about obtaining fireworks and then someone getting injured. They will get no such satisfaction. I am doing nothing. Sure I might play some Zelda, maybe go for a walk or to 7-11, but that's it. I am looking forward to this weekend.
