My Time Off

Over the past couple weeks (since Nov. 17th actually), I have been enjoying some time off from work. Our fiscal year ends at the end of November, so I had to use up the rest of my annual leave. Together with the thanksgiving holiday, I got a cool 2 weeks off. Yes, I am grateful for this. A few things happened.

I have been doing a lot of relaxing. It's nice. Internetting, sleeping, playing Lego Star Wars, etc. One thing I noticed with the internetting, is that when you are on vacation and have 300+ unread items in your rss aggregator, it tends to feel more like work, whereas while at work, rssing is a nice break. Funny how that works out.

Lego Star Wars is awesome, and I highly recommend it. Mine happens to be the Gamecube version. Speaking of game systems, I cannot tell you how unexcited I am about the XBox 360 and PS3 hububub. I guess I'm just not a "gamer" anymore.

My Niece, Megan, got baptized yesterday. It was a nice service, even with the little ones running around the chapel and across the alter. It kind of made it entertaining actually. I can't wait for Megan to grow up. I just realized as I'm typing this that one day, Sarah and Megan will probably read this by searching my archives, or archive.org or something. That's a strange thought.

And finally, Thanksgiving was quite lovely. Thursday I celebrated with Sara's family and had a delicious dinner. Then, Friday, my sister was able to fly in ad we had yet another delicious dinner with my family. Sara was doped up on Sudafed thanks to my dog, but we still managed too play some games and have a blast.

Oh, also I hung out with Tom. I really like hanging out with that guy. I really wish still lived here. I feel like we're kinda on the same level in many respects and think that we should hang out more. Too bad he lives in Illinois.

Thanks for listening. Don't forget to nag me to post more. I suck at it and need the motivation sometimes.

Party!

Tomorrow (November 17th, 2005), I will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of my birth, yes, my birth. As no formal celebration has been planned, I decided to spearhead an informal celebritory event. Henceforth, tomorrow (once again, November 17th), a gathering will be taking place at the Irish Hound Pubbery in Denver Colorado, commencing at 9:00pm (1100 mil.) until ?. That's right. I put a question-mark. It could get a little crazy, so I figured I'd go with the question-mark. Beer will be drank. Shots will be had. The fun will not end. Be there.

Update: So I just got an email from my friend Tom which was too funny not to post:
"Just wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday!!! (i think it's today...) Welcome to the silver-age of life. Being 25 is about as great as an episode of Star Trek (sometimes its cool but most of the time its pretty lame). Also, you're officially old enough to become jaded towards life and the world. Congratulations!!! Talk to you later. Again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!"

On The Switch

I have officially been a Mac user now for about 2 months. Overall I am truly satisfied. I sort of jumped in, being a Windows user for 10 years, not knowing a great deal about Mac's, but understanding the basics. Nick got his Mac probably a little over a year ago, and I fiddled on it now and then. My co-worker, Jason, also got one about a year ago, and has been literally a little voice in (beside) my head telling me to get a Mac ever since. After realizing that most everything I do is online (email, blogger, flickr, programming for fun), and wanting a laptop as my next computer for a couple of years, I decided not would be a perfect time to switch. This is getting long and boring, huh? I will speed it up.

OSX is amazing. It excels everywhere Windows has let me down: speed, searching locally, installation, updates to software, and style. I don't think I will ever get over just how much better OSX looks than Windows. Does it have it's problems? Yes. It has bugs. Sometimes it's not responsive, etc, but no worse than XP, and most of the time, much smoother.

The transfer of all of my documents was mostly painless, although it did take about 18 hours to transfer all of my files through the wireless network. I have found programs to replace my old windows programs fairly easily (most are the same program, just the Mac version), but I have also found some really cool programs that aren't available on Windows that would make it harder to switch back.

I'm not one of those guy's who is anti-Microsoft, nor do I refer to windows as "winBLOWS" or something stupid like that. I like Windows. I do. But I think I like OSX better. I am happy that I get to continue to use a Windows box at work and a Mac at home. Who knows what Vista will bring, but I don't think it will be earth shattering. Until something decides to change my mind, which I don't expect will happen soon, I will be here, happily poking away on my Mac and enjoying it.

Free Rent!

Our landlord just sent us a letter in the mail saying that starting in January, our rent will be $20 less than it is now. That's nearly $10 less a month per person! Ah, but seriously it is. This is quite a nice thing for her to do. I have never heard of a landlord lowering rent unprovoked, but I certainly have heard of landlords raising it. Anyhow, If my calculations are correct, Nick and I should have free rent in just 47 years! Think about that!

Hopefully the cat smell will be out by then too.
