The Streets - The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living

For those unfamiliar, The Streets is pretty much a one-man, white-rapping/electronica/lap-pop sort of production out of the UK, which makes for an incredibly unique sound. I jumped on the Streets bandwagon when The Streets' A Grand Don't Come for Free album was released. My friend Todd had played me some Streets off of Original Pirate Material and I liked the current single. I bought both of them within the course of 2 weeks. The new album is quite different from his first two releases in that I feel it is very safe. It's good, but a little safe. All in all I think he was trying to figure out what made his singles so successful in the past, then try to recreate that in each and every track of the album. For those new to the Streets, this might be a good album to get on as it doesn't have any really bad tracks like some of the older albums did, but I think if you really want to hear his best work, you won't be hearing it on this album. I will end by saying despite all the criticism , it is an insanely fun album and well worth it.

I just read on Mike Doughty's blog a little about some vague details on the new album he's working on. At the end of the post he says,
"I'm gonna title it after another anagram."
This refers to his first studio solo album which was an anagram entitled "Haughty Melodic". I hope the new album will be more than two words, because the only other two word anagram that exists is "Almighty Douche".

So he says, "So I get it, so you think I'm some kinda jerk for askin'," only he doesn't use the word jerk [...] and then he calls me a jerk and says the last guy who thought he was a jerk was dead now. So I don't say nothin' and he says, "What do ya think about that?" So I says, "Well, that don't sound like too good a deal for him then."

Google Calendar Tip:

I often add "to do" type events in my Google Calendar such as car payments, rent, and such. As of yet, I haven't found a good way to quickly tell whether or not I have completed that particular event (i.e. sent the check out, paid the bill).

I decided that it would nice if I could ad a check-mark to the front of the event to signify it was completed. Luckily, there is a common character that looks just like a check-mark in a sans-serif font: the Square Root symbol!

This symbol is actually easy to type on both Mac and Windows. Windows, press Alt+251 and on Mac simply hit Option+v. Just make sure you apply it to the current event only and not the series, as it will prompt you with this decision. And there you have it, an at-a-glance check-mark to signify a completed task as shown!

4 quick things:

-Tonight I (actually Sara) found my first gray hair ever. No sweat, but thought I'd document it.

-I forgot number two, but if I remember it, I'll update this.

-I posted my 97 Toyota Tacoma on craigslist for sale Sunday night at 9pm and it was 100% sold and out of my possession by Monday at 6pm. Craigslist is amazing,

-In iTunes, if you have an auto-playlist for unrated songs (which you should so you can rate songs on the go directly on your iPod), you will find playing this playlist in iTunes on your desktop doesn't work because the instant you rate the playing song, it stops playing as it does not meet the criteria of the playlist.

The cure is to play the Party Shuffle, and at the bottom, choose Source: Your_Unrated_Playlist and no problems, the song will keep playing even if you rate the playing song. Hope this helps. (jake?)
