Tomorrow night, Sara and I are heading off to San Francisco to visit Julie and Mary. San Francisco is probably the most frequented place I have ever gone (with the exception of all those childhood summer road trips to St. Louis), but I am always excited to go. I feel like I have only been to a handful of the unbelievable restaurants out there and that place has more neighborhoods than I think I'll ever see. If you have any suggestion on what to do, let 'er rip because we don't have a gameplan or anything while we're out there. Fun Fact: when I went to visit Julie the first time, we were walking around the steep hills of the city and I was thinking about Denver. In that thought, I asked Julie, "So when it snows here do the kids just go nuts with sleding?" I know, I'm a big idiot. At least I know I'm an idiot. "You're the one who was getting fancy with the spices!" Labels: life, san francisco, travel
One of my biggest pet peeves about the presidential elections is all of the talk of "Red States" and "Blue States." Obviously it doesn't bother me when they talk about states this way with respect to the electoral college, but rather when people talk about how "people from red states" feel one way and "people from blue states" feel or think another way. The following is a map of the continental United States, by county. Fully red counties voted 100% for McCain, Fully blue counties voted 100% for Obama, and Purple counties voted 50/50. ![]() Maps from the 2008 Presidential Election Now look at that graph and tell me which states have people who think one way and states who think the other way. That's a lot of purple. It is frustrating, especially right before the election, to see popular links to pages like this: "Dear Red States..." A Letter From The Blue!...which talks about how the Red States are "leaving the blue states" and goes on to list all of the good things that come from the blue states that "they are taking with them," and Red State Socialism...which shows on a fancy chart that red states pay less in taxes than they receive from the government and vise versa for blue states. Here's the thing. Colorado, for the last 12 years has been a "Red State" but this year, in 2008, our electoral votes went to Obama. So reading those kinds of posts and links that were going around before the election weren't very encouraging to us Colorado voters. Now that we are a blue state, or rather a purple state that went for Obama, I just hope we can set a better example and understand that we are a purple nation, one that is aptly named the United States of America. I hope we can start acting like it. It's also worth looking at the site the map above came from, it really has some interesting data on it about the 2008 election. Labels: politics

Last week, after holding out for many months with having a full hard drive and deleting things I did not want to delete, I was able to use some money I made doing side projects to help me buy a new MacBook Pro, the ones that were just announced last week. My old computer had an 80 GB hard drive. The new one is 250 GB. So far I completely love it. Everything is incredibly fast. Let me see how long it takes to launch Photoshop again... literally 2 seconds. Most of my favorite things about this computer are very small things. The sound the superdrive makes when I open the lid from sleep is so much more quiet and shorter than the old sound- love that. I have been really enjoying the MagSafe connector on Sara's Macbook and now I have one- I don't feel like I am breaking my computer when the plug presses against my leg like on the old PowerBook or when the dog trips on the cord. Also, the transfer to my new computer went really well. I didn't want to fully transfer my home directory over whole-sale and bring all the junk with it, so I hand copied over files. Then I copied over my Music/iTunes folder and iPhoto app, and everything transferred perfectly, retaining all my metadata (ratings, album art, titles, events) as well as actual data. I haven't even had a need for my fancy new graphics card and I'm still considering if I really do need to put Windows (VMWare Fusion) on this machine. The screen and the buttonless trackpad are both great. I'm looking forward to having this machine for a long time. Labels: apple
I will save $250 (The full calculator says $1,800) under an Obama administration plus help with retirement, and I will save $0 under a McCain administration. What about you? Labels: politics
This one's for the Googles. I had a problem with my iPhone where when I tried to update apps on my iPhone it said the application could not be installed and that it would install the next time I connected my computer to iTunes. Well, the next time I connected my phone to my computer, iTunes tried to update the apps but it wouldn't work and I would get this error that said some applications were not installed with the error code 0xE800002E. After a lot of searching and failed attempts at fixing the problem, I finally found a solution that worked, so if you are getting the same error follow these steps and it should fix your problem without any data loss or anything:

So I realize I have a fairly common name. There are a lot of other ‘mes’ in the world. In fact, if you Google me, you will find out that “I’m” a singer in a band (sweet!), a doctor, a real estate agent, a turtle researcher in Australia (super sweet!!), a painter, a gay romance novel writer, etc. My point is that – I can understand if someone accidentally emails me when they’re trying to reach another Sara (typically I ignore these or I, occasionally, email back and explain they’ve reached the wrong Sara – no big deal.) My major problem comes when you ARE a Sara and you use MY email address! Come on ladies – you should know your own damn email address! And if your myspace, match.com, or bridal registry account sends me YOUR password – you’re asking me to mess with you. Really, you are. You just are. Typically when these other Saras set up an account under my email – I go in and change the password or close the account. I don’t want to see that ‘Johnny B.” just sent you a myspace mail. However last night, I was feeling a little tired . . . a little punchy when I realized that some other Sara used my email for her bridal registry and I ended up doing what Mark called “social terrorism.” Ooops. So maybe I wanted to add some sex toys and lubricants to her registry, but BB&B doesn’t have those. Damn! Next best thing? Maybe I added some baby registry items to her bridal registry? Maybe there are some cute little pink sheets or a double wide stroller on there now?? I don’t know what all I did. I was tired. It was late. Maybe she now wants 450 gravy boats? I’m just saying – sometimes you just accidentally do these things and you don’t even realize it?? I don’t know. Maybe she’s now asking for 8 adhesive bras and an XXXL body slimmer? I don’t know. There are a lot of possibilities. Labels: aminutewiththemrs
